It has a sincher in the back to make it tighter around the forehead then the chin strap. For my son I got a 12-18 month, I believe, and his is bigger but the tie makes it fit so much better and he has room to grow! -Me

This is the best summer hat I have ever bought my kids. I bought 2 of these for a trip to the zoo and fell in love with the fit of these hats. The hats singles on the back of the head to stay tight around the head.
