"We were on vacation in Italy over the summer and were fortunate enough to find this place!  Many thanks to the sweet waitress at Marigold who told us about La Romana! The gelato is incredible.  My favorite, nocciola was the best I've ever had! We also tried mango and strawberry, and ... The telltale sign for good gelato- pay attention to who is in line!! Are they all tourists? If so, Run! Don't walk away.. At La Romana the large majority of patrons were locals.  And surprisingly the staff were still pretty patient with those who did not speak Italian very well.  Other gelato places will rush you and get frustrated with too many questions. This is not in a super touristy section, more of a residential area, but it's worth the trip!!" - Michele L.
"One of my favorite gelato places in Rome for sure! The staff is a bit unfriendly and a bit impatient, but the gelato is very light and delicious and not overly sweet. I love the Biscotta dela Nonna flavor. Their cones are wafer cones which aren't my favorite. Nevertheless, I give this place 5 stars." - Kathy H.
"Everyone says every place in Rome is the best they have ever tasted of this and the best of that..it's almost becoming a neutral word by now...I guess one has to see Who posted what and what experience they had in food and restaurants around the world...would be nice to have some foodie qualifications I guess now on to this place: I really don't want to wait in the line up any more!! Don't come here! It's no good!!  The 20 minute line up is a con! Really the gelato is ...ok ok fine ITS THE BEST IN THE WOOOOOOOOORLD but then what do I know about anything...ask someone with a name like Joe...." - Mario M.

7. Gelateria S. M. Maggiore

Great spot for a delicious cup or cone of gelato and a soft drink. They offer 20 plus flavors and one is sure to please.

"A small cup with two flavors was more than enough Gelato for me. I got strawberry and chocolate chip, and my goodness. This was a combination I didn't know I needed. Both were amazing and complimentary. But the strawberry really stood out. I'd love to just keep going here to try all the flavors. They take cash or card so don't worry if you don't have any euros. The line was kind of long since it's a tiny shop and there was only one employee. Well worth the wait!" - Danielle G.
"This was such a large portion of gelato for the small size, which definitely helps explain the line out the door - even late at night. For the small size, I got 2 flavors (pistachio and melon) for 3€. The pistachio was amazing and had chunks of real pistachio in it. The melon flavor was also very strong. Large selection of vegan options (all the fruit flavors). Lady taking our order was curt, but got the job done." - Grace L.
